To the plant experts. I just brought two coconut trees
or plants whichever is the correct term. I need to know the proper care for them. I thought since they were thopical that they would need alot of water and light, but the leaves are turning brown. I also need to know what kind of insect repellent to put on the leaves because I noticed little bugs laying eggs on the leaves. If it matters I live in PA and I keep the plants in the window that gets the maos sunlight.
Thanks for your help,

Coconut palms are not the easiest plants to keep healthy indoors, although it can be done. They need lots of direct sunlight and high humidity.
Water it thoroughly when the top inch or two of soil feels dry with your finger. Let it get drier in the winter, but not completely dried out.
Fertilize with any standard or reg fertilizer in the summer months, but only if it's healthy and putting out new growth.
Check for any pest or spider mites on the undersides of the leaves. Spray the leaves and eggs with a soapy mild dish solution, then wipe off them down in about fifteen minutes or so with a moist cloth making sure you wipe off all the eggs. If you have mites, you might have to spray again in another week, maybe the next two until they or another pest are totally gone. You can also use an inch of rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle, the rest water. It's best to cover the soil when spraying either one and don't put the palm back into a sunny window until the fronds are completely dry.
