Watering only after the soil has had a chance to dry out some first. Others may need moist soil conditions all of the time and maybe even a bit more light. It all depends on the plant since each plant can have different needs.
Fertilizing is usually done in the growing months, spring and summer, none in winter since most plants stop growing and take a rest.
