How do you know if you are overwatering or underwatering a plant? I have two plants that suddenly have several leaves turning brown. Is it the time of year? Is it something I am or am not doing during the winter season? They are in the same location and I have not changed my watering pattern. Thanks for your help.

Whole brown dried leaves can be caused by a few reasons, over-feeding, light to high (direct sun) Low light, pest infestation, under or over-watering watering.
If it's just the tips browning, hard-water use, over or under-watering or dry air could be the cause.

First thing I would do is check for pest. Then make sure the two plants are getting the right care as far as watering and light. Sometimes a plant (s) when brought into a new home can lose some of their leaves for a while because of the change of environment by then will stabilize.

Go to a plant or hardware store and get one of those meters that reads the amount of water in a pot. It's a life and plant saver. Cost is about $8.00. That's the cost of 1 overwatered dead plant.
