I received a pretty orchid last September that had pretty little fuchia flowers on it. When the flowers all fell off about three months later I trimmed the stem back. The plant has not put our any more flowers, stems or leaves since that was done in early December. Will the plant put out again. There are a total of four leaves left on the plant and they look very healthy. I hope the plant is just in a dormant cycle now. I would hate to lose the plant. It was a birthday gift. The plant is in a clay pot but it is still attached to a piece of tree bark. I put soil in the pot first and just sort of sat the bark and plant over in it. I am beginning to feet it very weakly on a 7-9 day cycle. I hope that is okay. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ok....First type in "Dendrobium" and then "Phalaenopsis" into google and find which is the type of orchid you have. Water this guy ONCE a week...no more, no less. Also, put this plant in a bright area, east or south window is best.

Get the soil out of the pot ASAP....Orchids are epiphytes, meaning they live in trees and cannot stand the compaction of soi. Their roots need air to function or they will rot. Bark chips on the other hand make a good medium for orchids because it breaths well.

Let me know what type of orchid you have and i can help you more.

I will remove it from the soil today. The plant came with the litle piece of tree bark but it is too small for the pot. I will buy the growing medium for orchids today. I think it is the Dendrobium type.
