I have had this houseplant for 5 yrs now. It is a delicate, palmy/fern like plant. I am sorry I do not know the name. I have seen extremely large versions of this plant in offices. 2 to 3 new stalks grow up from the base at a time and then open up to reveal a feather-like leaf. All of a sudden, 2 strange stalks grew out of it with forked edges and little balls underneath. They are a lighter green color than the rest of the plant and they are growing very slowly. What are they? Should I cut them off? Amy

I am guessing that you have a dwarf form of Cyperus alternifolis. If that is so, the 'new' things may be the flowers forming. They are perfectly natural and won't do any harm. Derek
