I have a "tree" that I have no idea what it's called and it's really not doing well. I would like to figure out what I'm doing wrong & how to take care of it properly, but I need to figure out what it is first. About the only thing I can say about it is the leaves look like the leaves on a canabis plant,any thoughts?

Hmm, I'm not sure how big your plant is.. perhaps it is a Japanese Aralia. Does it look like this: http://www.plantcare.com/encyclopedia/japanese-aralia-482.aspxThey have been known to be confused with cannabis.

Thanks for trying, but the leaves on my plant are much thinner and the steams are as well, almost really skinny tree like.

I would love to help you but you have to give more information ( a picture would be nice), i.e.:
What is the leaf color? Is it variegated, solid green, or grey or ...you get the picture.
Next what type of leaf is it? Is it Round, ovate, serrated, spike like, you know what I mean?
Is the plant a floor ( Grows up fr. the container) plant or Hanging Basket (Grows down over the rim of the container)?
The information you can give us the greater the chance of someone in this forum being able to help you.

I have, what sounds like, a similar plant and need help with transplanting
info. The stems (only 1 left now) are dark brown near the top and lighter on the bottom. The stem looks alittle like bamboo. The leaves are very thin and long, medium-dark green with a vein running thru the middle and the outer edge is serrated. The plant stands about 2 ft tall and does resemble cannabis plant. Any ideas of the name and the best way to re-vive it. I took it out of the pot, root intact and put it in water for now. Should I cut the stem, leave it in water for roots to grow or re-pot it as is? Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

You have just described the exact same plant that I recently "adopted". It had no identification and, therefore, no care instructions. It is a very attractive house "tree" but has lost alot of it's bottom leaves in the past several days and I'm afraid that it's going to die if I can't figure out what it is. The leaves are a dark green color and are not waxy by any means. It has 7 leaves on each little branch. They are thin and very similar to that of a canabis.

I think it is a false aralia... go to this link False AraliaI hope this helps. It's one of my favorite plants. I've had two, givin one away. They are great plants, not too hard to keep alive. Good Luck. ClutzyJ
