I finally have a houseplant I havent killed, but now there are small flies on the soil and leaves of my swedish ivy. They are quite small and resemble fruit flies (though i don't think they are fruit flies).

Will these flies harm the plant? How do I get rid of them regardless (the plant is in my bedroom and I hate flies in there)?? Also, the pot is new (less than a month old) but theres yellowish stuff gathering on the pot - kind of looks like some sort of residue. Could that be the flies?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
