Hi --
I just ID'd a plant I received as a gift as a jellybean succulent, and the information on this site says that to propagate it, I should stick a stem or leaf cutting directly into soil. This might sound dumb, but I've always started cuttings in water to let the roots come on. Do I understand these directions correctly, to just pop it in some dirt?
Thanks for anyone's expertise -- this is a great site!

Hey Kate,

I just recently got a Jade myself. Everything I've read about succulents is that they rot when water logged. So to stick your Jelly Bean cutting in water to root would not be a good idea.
For a Jade they say the same thing about propagation, also, to let the cut end dry before putting it in the growing medium and put it in filtered sun light until you see new growth. Keep the soil moist but not wet and make sure that your soil is not to compacted.

Hope it helps!
