Hello,

From 1996 I am keeping reptiles as pets and because their cages are called terrariums, I was confused reading in another website about plants the name "terrarium" reffering to plants. So, I would like to ask what is a terrarium in the gardening terms?

Thanks, Grigoris

A plant terrarium is a self-contained little ecosystem of moss, soil, water and vegetation. They maintain their own moisture to support the plants, and just have a small opening at the top for air. They're really cool for kids to make and maintain. I had one as a kid in a glass globe-shaped bowl. The plants lived for what seemed to be forever at the time, but, looking back was probably only about six months.
