Hi. I have a small Satsuma mandarin orange tree (I’ve had less than a year) and need some advice. It’s still in the container I bought it in, but I have plans to get the half wine barrel for it soon. It’s getting yellow spots on the leaves. I bought a citrus fertilizer for it and have been feeding it as is says on the package. It’s still kind of rainy here now, so it’s getting plenty of water and I’ve made sure it’s able to drain. The tree has been flowering and you can see small fruits beginning to form. There has been tons of new growth recently too. I’m just worried about the yellow spots on the old leaves. Also, I was wondering if they need another of the same type of tree to cross pollinate. Thank you for any help you can give :)

I have never heard of a citrus needing cross pollination to fruit, so I think you are fine in that respect. If your tree is growing vigorously it is most likely healthy. The most common cause of yellow leaves is overwatering, but that usually makes all of the leaves on the tree yellowish and pale. I'd letting the soil around your tree to dry out between waterings and to only fertilize it a couple of times a year and make them very light applications at that. I have written an article on citrus care if you are interested. Good luck! http://www.phoenixtropicals.com/citrus.html
