I have no idea what this plant is, except the note that came with it said "water sparingly". The leaves are thick and are a nice light green color. It doesn't seem to have soil, rather small red rocks. This plant looked a lot nicer 3 weeks ago (I sort of inherited it, long story). You can see the missing chunck that just died. Need to find out how to care for this plant before it dies. Thanks.

Looks similar to a echeveria coccinea.

Do you know if it is a house plant or perennial for outside? Kind of looks to me like a succulent--which is why it would say water sparingly and there are many different types of succulents--

I believe it is a houseplant. It was sitting inside the few times I ever saw it. The person who owned it passed away, so I can't ask them.

Here is the side view. You can see the large chunk I had to remove because it was dead. A bunch of the red / brown you see in the photo are more dead stuff at the base, but also red rocks: Also, a few leaves have been falling off, the larger ones have "veins" (I'm not much of a plant person) that look similar to fine, red thread. A (blurry) photo of that is here:

It almost looks like a variety of the jade plant to me. They have small leaf varieties, I had one that looked a lot like yours but it died.

I don't know what this is, but it does look like a succulent, so it probably would appreciate infrequent watering. Have you tried starting the leaves in soil? It looks like they'll root and start a new plant.
