my jade plant isn't doing so well. i did some research and decided the culprit was a so-called 'rust left'? something to that tune. so i decided to get a multi-purpose spray and i've been using that 3 times a day and after reading more, i've seen that jades are very sensitive to pesticides so i've probably been doing more harm than go at this point. i also thought it might've been that my jade needed to be transplanted so i put it into a larger pot with no regard for what kind of soil to use.

if you haven't guessed by now, i have no idea what i'm doing with plants. i'm trying to not let my jade die because of the sentimental value that it holds so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i don't know what's wrong with it yet. i used to live out in new mexico and it was doing fine out there, i kept it outside and the leaves were a very bright green with a lot of red around the edges. i moved about a month ago to arizona and it's been all downhill ever since. the spotting has been getting worse and on top of the withering, it seems like something's been eating at the leafs as well. any ideas?

I know you posted a long time ago...not sure if anyone has responded.

What size of pot did you repot to? There is a very important rule to keep in mind when repotting. NEVER go more than 2 pot sizes up from your plants original pot size. The reasoning behind this is because having a 'house' so big, the plant will most likely sit in soggy soil and begin to have root rot. Also plants roots are their 'anchor' and in large pots, plants are unable to be steady and anchor themselves.

Second, What type of soil are you using? I hope you are using a cactus/succulent soil. This soil is sandy, and fast draining and is really perfect for Jade and other types of succulents and cacti. They will do much better in soil made for them specifically.

Third, How much light was it getting prior to the new location? Was it in a South, West, or East Window? The window with the brightest light will be perfect for your Jade as long as it is not getting scorched by the sun. Jade tend to be Green and the more sun light they recieve the more red that will appear on the leaves..the perfect ammount of sun will make your jade have red edges on its leaves.

Whatever you do. Don't over water. This is the main cause of death for these poor babies. It is always better to underwater than to over water. That goes for EVERY plant. Less pests, and less problems.

If you ever encounter pests, Jades ARE sensitive to insecticides. BUT when I had to cure my Jade for Mealy Bugs, I misted my plant VERY good prior to spraying it with Insecticide. This seemed to help protect a lot of its new growth (the most vulnerable to damage when sprayed with insecticides). If I didnt mist it before hand I made sure I misted it after I used my insecticide spray. It is now 1 year later and my plant is fabulous and I've cut it back at least once and recieved lots of new plants from it.

I wish you the best of luck!
