Hi all-

So I have a had this plant, don't even know what kind, for about 10 years. This is a REALLY long time for a plant killer like me. It has more than outgrown its pot.

I just went to the store and bought a new pot to replant her in. BUT, here is the part I need your help, the pot is more than 2 sizes bigger....I would say maybe up to 4 sizes bigger.

How bad is that? The place I bought the pot is pretty far away and I really don't want to have to return it. BUT, the life of my plant is more than important to me.

Also if you have any advice to add about repotting a plant that has WAY over grown its stay in the pot I would be more than happy to take any advice. Thanks

I think it would be easier to give you some advice if you could tell us how big the current pot is, how tall the plant is, and how big the new pot is.
I've frequently repotted plants in way bigger pots, but then those were really far too tall for their pots, and in a greenhouse (so they grew to fill the new pot much faster).

Here is the plant, man is it over grown its pot. Here is also the pot I bought for it. Looking at it right now....I think I know the answer.

Its just a house plant and not in greenhouse.

Do you know what kind of plant it is?

A description or a photo being posted would help.

You should figure about a gallon of soil per foot of height your plant has so if your plants about 3 foot you'd need about 3 gal of soil. But ive never met a plant that didnt like a bigger pot. So if you want some new growth take that 3 foot plant and maybe put it in a 5 gallon pot. Just keep soil loose and aerated so roots can move and try to pick a soil thats good for your plant. Some plants like nutrient rich soil and some love very poor soil. Your plant will pay you back with new growth and fresh air!
