Hey folks... first post here :) I have a question about growing a plant I have from just its root structure. I know it's possible to grow plants from root cuttings but i'm wondering if its better to grow it from a small cutting or to leave the whole root structure that is there and just cut off the whole top of the plant. The plant i'm trying to do is a miracle fruit plant that basically has died due to a fungus on it's leaves. It has a pretty good root structure that i think is still alive. Any tips would be wonderful. Thanks!

yes..it is possible..many plants can be grown from root cuttings. you have to make sure that the root system of the plant is healthy and not damaged by the fungus. You can make 4 to 6" cuttings of pencil thick roots and plant them horizontally in the pot. Any good potting mix will do. Place your cuttings around 1/2" below the surface and just add enough water to make the soil moist. You can cover the pot with a clear plastic bag. This helps in maintaining the humidity and leads to quicker sprouting. If you live in an area thats cold, you can place your pot under lights for warmth. This technique works with most plants. So I think it should work for your miracle fruit plant too.

but would it be better and/or possible to just leave the entire root structure intact and cut it off at the soil-line and let it regrow from that? or should i just go with the actual cutting of the root. thanks for your suggestions!

bulbs can be grown easily by leaving just the root structure in the soil where as for other plants it is better if you take cuttings from the root
