I have a very large embankment (100ft x 75ft) that I would like to have it covered with ivy and I have a friend who wants to get rid of a large ivy bed from her yard.

Question 1: Can you dig up (with a shovel) a spade full of ivy & transplant it to another area?

Question 2: Any suggestions on removal & planting of large ivy transplantion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Transplanting Ivy is quite simple annd can be done. When digging them up. Dig up a clump, trying to keep as much of the roots intact as possible. Take the clump and break apart the ivy into individual plants, cutting the plants apart with a sharp shovel, so no to mangle the roots. Then replant the plants on the hillside, and I would strongly suggest using a root stimulator with a B1 additive which would help reduce the transplant shock, which you should be able to find at your local garden center. Hope that helps.

English Ivy can become quite invasive. You may end up not liking the outcome.

Many state and county agencies have programs that will give (or sell cheaply) native grasses and vines for use in erosion control.

Just Me: Thanks for all the great info. Now all I have to do is wait for the raining to stop.

JCalhoun: never knew about the programs about grasses & vines for erosion control. Thanks.
