Need help to identify my plant. Options

I got this beautiful tree from my friend, but I don't know how to take care of it. I tried several different ways, (more or less water/more or less sunlight) but the plant keeps on loosing leafs.

I attached a picture, hoping someone can help me.

It appears to be a Japanese Maple Tree, which are very difficult to grow indoors and require more light them you can most likely give them indoors.

Thank both of you a lot. It is the Ming Aralia.
I compared it to some other pictures in the net.
Finally i have a name and can look how to help my plant.
